What Does Self Publishing Cost?

Self Publishing CostIf you are considering self-publishing, you are probably wondering what does it cost. Here are some steps to take to minimize the cost of publishing your book. A reputable company will charge between 900 and 1300 dollars for editing an 80,000 word novel.  However, this amount doesn’t cover everything you should expect. Some services will even offer discounted prices if you can find them on the internet.

The self publishing cost can add up quickly if you hire a professional to design the cover and layout the interior. While there are many ways to do this, they will all cost money. Book reviews are also essential for authors who want to sell their books in the retail book channel, but they cost money. Other costs include website development and building a platform. These costs aren’t as high if you learn how to do them yourself and find free resources.

Can Self Publishing Lead to Traditional Publishing?

traditional publishingCan self publishing lead to traditional publishing? Yes, if you know how to do it. However, there are many things you should know before going this route. Self-published books are not necessarily looked at by literary agents. This is because they are self-published, and thus, you can only have limited control over the artwork and design elements of your book. Traditional publishing houses prefer works that have been traditionally published, and vice versa.

If you have finished your book and haven’t yet signed an agent, you can still submit your manuscript to reputable traditional publishers. However, there will be more competition, and slots will be limited. Traditional publishers want to attract market share and money, and self-published authors should be prepared to show social profiles and sales reports. While you may feel intimidated at first, there are ways to make this process successful. Here are some tips for self-published authors:

publish on kindle

1. Exposure.

By getting published on Amazon, you’re getting your name out there and you’re building credibility. Yes, even a $2.99 Kindle book makes you a published author in most people’s eyes.

2. List building.

It’s wonderfully easy to place your squeeze page URL or your website URL inside your books than you publish on Kindle, along with an offer for another free ebook just for joining your list. And these are quality prospects you’re adding to your list. After all, you know they’re interested in your topic, you know they like you (or they wouldn’t join your list after reading your book) and you know that they make purchases in your niche (after all, they bought your book, didn’t they?)
